Presentation

This executive course gives decision makers a practical, strategic framework to identify high-value AI opportunities, avoid common pitfalls and lead successful data and AI initiatives, including the newest generation of AI agents.

In today's world, data is everywhere, yet the ability to harness its potential for informed decision-making, and consequently, its significant impact on business, remains elusive to most organisations. But how should an organisation start to become data-driven? What are the best practices for implementing data science models that benefit the entire organisation? And how to negotiate executive buy-in for data science initiatives?

This 5-day course follows the full lifecycle of data science and AI initiatives: from strategy and use-case selection to deployment, governance and impact measurement. You will explore core machine learning concepts, data science pipelines and model behaviour, including typical limitations and pitfalls, as well as generative AI.

A full day is dedicated to agentic AI: what AI agents really are, what they can and cannot do, how to build one in a hands-on session, and what we have learned deploying them in real SDSC projects. Hands-on sessions with no-code and low-code tools, and use cases from the private and public sector, show how models are built, deployed and governed.

‍What You Will Learn

  • Understand the foundations: Discover how ML, generative AI and AI agents really work, through clear and accessible theoretical sessions.
  • Experiment first-hand: guided hands-on sessions where you build your own ML models and AI agents, with drag-and-drop tools.
  • Lead AI from idea to impact: Steer AI initiatives through their full lifecycle, from strategy and governance to ethics, compliance, explainability and impact assessment.
  • Learn from real projects: See what works and what doesn't through use cases from many industries, presented by the SDSC and its partner institutions.

Delivered by the Swiss Data Science Center

This course is taught by experts from the Swiss Data Science Center – a joint initiative of ETH Zurich and EPFL – combining academic discipline with hands-on industry insight. The program was created with the support of EPFL Extension School.

Details

Target audience

Leaders and decision makers who need to understand data science and AI deeply enough to challenge assumptions, make informed decisions and lead AI initiatives, without becoming data scientists themselves. The course is taught in English.
