The SDSC to support 31 projects through its second National Calls
Lausanne, Zurich, Villigen. August 13th, 2026 – Following a thorough review process in its 2025 National Calls, the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) will commit in-kind data science, machine learning and AI expertise capacity to 31 collaborative projects. The accepted collaborations will begin in the second half of 2026 and last for up to two years.
The new collaborations include:
- 16 collaborative Research Data Science projects will receive in-kind data science expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning and AI.
- 4 end-user Innovation projects will be provided with in-kind data science and engineering skills to maximize the impact of academic research innovations in end-user contexts, benefiting public institutions, industrial, and economic stakeholders.
- 11 collaborative Infrastructure projects will benefit from in-kind SDSC support. Of these, 8 projects receive proof-of-concept support to validate and mature their infrastructure concepts in preparation for future Minimal Viable Product (MVP) proposals. 3 projects receive support to develop operational, interoperable, and reusable MVP solutions.
Applications underwent a thorough evaluation process against a comprehensive set of criteria, including innovation potential, expected scientific and societal benefits, feasibility, long-term sustainability of the resulting data resources and data science tools, and their contribution to Switzerland's open research data ecosystem.
The SDSC provides expertise and services for the design and implementation of strategic data science projects, including research data infrastructures and data science platforms. Particular emphasis is placed on health and biomedical, climate and environment, energy and sustainability, digital society, and large-scale research infrastructures - while supporting data-driven science and innovation across all domains for societal impact.

As a part of its National Research Infrastructure mandate, the SDSC will continue annual calls, providing expertise and services towards the design and implementation of ambitious data science concepts, including research data infrastructures and data science platforms.
